Project Overview

To celebrate one of the biggest video game releases of the year, Voodoo Ranger IPA collaborated with Borderlands 4 and Avid Marketing Group to launch a nationwide digital instant-win program. As the lead digital designer, I architected the high-energy, responsive landing page and mobile instant-win funnel that allowed gamers to scan retail packaging QR codes to unlock free copies of the game and rare in-game loot rewards.

The Challenge

Gaming audiences have an incredibly low tolerance for generic corporate marketing. The interface needed to feel like an authentic extension of the chaotic, cell-shaded, post-apocalyptic Borderlands universe, while still functioning flawlessly as an instant-win tool under rigid legal compliance for an alcohol sponsor. The design required managing real-time instant-win validation logic, text-heavy instructions, and age gates, without cluttering the energetic aesthetic.

My Role & Digital Strategy

Immersive Gaming UI/UX: Synthesized raw gaming assets, gritty graphic treatments, and heavy stylized typography to build a "Quit Earth" themed microsite that resonated directly with the core gaming demographic.

Instant-Win Logic Mapping: Designed the complete user state flow for real-time win/loss validation. I mapped out the distinct user journeys for instant "Congrats" winner screens (with secure promo code generation) versus the "Sorry" state, prioritizing micro-interactions that kept users engaged.

Complex Asset Scaling: Developed a responsive art direction strategy in Figma, ensuring that high-contrast character art and complex background layers scaled seamlessly from widescreen desktop monitors to compact mobile viewports without sacrificing layout legibility.

Flawless Design System Hygiene: Maintained pristine Figma file organization with tokenized color palettes and atomic component states (inputs, buttons, modal overlays) to minimize friction and ensure an efficient, pixel-perfect deployment by the engineering team.
